If you don’t know who John Chow is, but you’re reading my blog, then CONGRATULATIONS! Finally, I’m appreciated as the superior blogger I really am!
OK, maybe not.
If you want to make money online, you have to know John Chow. John Chow is allegedly one of the most successful bloggers out there. He boasts of a monthly income of $30,000 from his blogs, which is way more than enough to spawn blogs like this one and a million other make money online blogs. Recently though, John has been getting some pretty bad publicity. The rap on John is that he doesn’t teach anybody how to make money on the internet, really. Well, I’ve read his blog, and hey, it’s not so bad. I don’t really expect John to come out and tell us all how to make $30,000 a month. That’s not even what his blog is about.
If you’ve actually read anything besides the monthly income figures, you’ll notice that John says he “makes money online by telling people how much money I make online.” Nowhere on his blog does it say he “makes money online by telling people HOW to make money online.” And you know what, it’s true. He DOES make money online by telling people how much money he makes online. We’re all just naturally greedy and so we keep reading his restaurant reviews and stories about how rich he is, hoping that by doing so, some of that money will rub off on us. That’s not John’s fault, so quit complaining.
They also say that John is a terrible blogger. OK, I have to agree. I don’t think I’m a very good blogger myself, but man, I don’t like reading John’s posts. There’s no value in them whatsoever. Not even entertainment value. BUT SO WHAT? Nobody’s asking you to read his blog. You don’t have to read about it the next time he reviews a lobster restaurant.
Where do I stand on all of this?
John Chow is a terrible blogger, but a GREAT marketing genius. He preyed on people’s greed, relied on several unsavory techniques early on to drive traffic, all while telling us he was doing it (in between lobster reviews). That’s HARDCORE. I salute him for that. I also salute him because while he’s getting negative publicity, he’s STILL getting publicity. Can you believe that? He’s drinking all that Hater-ade and turning it into free advertising.
Of course, John was eventually smacked by the Big G (Google) for basically buying and SEO-ing his way to the top of the page rankings while offering no real value whatsoever. Big blow to John, no doubt. The huge traffic the Big G used to drive to his blog (with the keywords “make money online,” no doubt) is now a thing of the past. Sooner or later ad sales are going to drop, and well.. it just doesn’t pay to mess with the Big G.
But then I look at John’s monthly income report, and then I think again.
p.s.
Just so this blog will have some entertainment value, here’s a joke for all you wonderful people out there:
Who is Soulja Boy’s best friend? YOUUUUUU!
